A 23-year-old Maple man has been charged after officers stopped the motorcyclist traveling almost 120 kilometers an hour over the speed limit.
Police said the motorcyclist was nabbed by a radar check on Jane Street between Major Mackenzie Drive and Teston Road in the City of Vaughan on Thursday.
Police said the radar determined that the man was traveling 179 kilometres per hour in a 60 kilometre per hour zone.
The driver's 2010 Yamaha Z600 motorcycle was impounded and the driver's licence was suspended for seven days.
Mark Valentin, 23, of Maple, is charged with excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
"York Regional Police would like to remind drivers that this type of driving offence is extremely dangerous. High rates of speed dramatically increase the possibility of death or serious injury to the driver, other motorists and pedestrians," York Regional Police said in a release.
"Incidents involving young drivers are especially troubling as the level of driving experience is low and the ability to react to a dangerous situation may be compromised by the driver's inexperience."
